Senior IT Systems Engineer

We have a Senior IT Systems Engineer at our client Columbia MD, this is a permanent role. The Senior IT Systems Engineer will be an instrumental part of a highly technical team in managing and modernizing an existing IT infrastructure. This hands-on position requires an experienced individual to install, upgrade, patch, and manage software in a VMware environment. The systems engineer will work with and troubleshoot server hardware. Additional duties include backups, disaster recovery, updates, and other technology-driven solutions in a fast-paced, multi-site (node) environment.

  • Participate in all phases of the software and systems lifecycles, emphasizing system maintenance, configuration, integration, and information assurance.
  • Interface with users to determine computer system functional requirements
  • Design, test, and develop systems and components to meet end-user needs
  • Document requirements, designs, test results, and procedures
  • Configure, install, test, and troubleshoot computer network components and equipment
  • Deliver quality performance metrics
  • Proactively manage capacity planning of all production hardware servers and storage.
  • Analyze technical needs, requirements, and state of the server, storage, and virtualization infrastructure design, integration, and operations.
  • Perform regular audits of IT infrastructure to ensure optimal performance
  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and Internet Systems
  • Lead efforts to configure Firewalls, routers, switches, and VPNs
  • Manage personnel operating an Enterprise service desk
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Potential to work remotely two to three days weekly per management approval

Education Requirement: A Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline, such as Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Information Systems, or an equivalent amount of education and experience. Relevant IT/Cyber Security certifications are required or can be attained within six months of hire.

Experience Requirement: Must possess a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Must have a practical, hands-on, working knowledge of the setup and configuration of IT infrastructure and computer networks in conjunction with applicable system engineering skills. DOD Secret clearance or higher, or the ability to obtain.
